Munich Coffees Tried and Tested

0

All Stylighters will agree that there’s nothing better than a good cup of coffee in the morning (the queue at the coffee machine doesn’t lie). In a city where quality is highly appreciated, it’s not too difficult to find a place that serves a great espresso or cappuccino. In order to make the search for the city’s best black gold a little easier for you coffee lovers, we’ve compiled a list of our top 10 coffee spots in Munich.

Stereo Cafè Munich

Stereo Cafe

Stereo Cafe – Residenzstraße 25

At the top floor of a menswear concept store on Residenzstrasse, you’ll find one of Munich’s hottest cafes. Filled with yummy mummies and gossiping fashionistas, this cafe has all the right ingredients for a long and coffee-filled afternoon. Take a place in front of the huge window if you enjoy people-watching, or head to the back of the cafe where you’ll find a cosy terrace with pale blue tables and fresh flowers. The coffee is delicious, but there are also Super Danke smoothies if you’re in need of a health kick. Homemade cakes, avocado toast & salads will give you new energy for some more shopping in the area.

Cafe Emil – Schellingstrasse 143

This relatively new kid on the block sure knows how to brew a good cuppa: Cafe Emil gets its black gold from coffee roasting company Emilo, a young company passionate about creating the best-roasted beans in the biz. The cafe is located in a pale blue building, and the interior is just as colourful, with comfy velvet cushions in shades of red, green, yellow and blue, with quirky design details completing the look. Aside from good coffee, you can get your sweet fix here too, and on Saturdays and Sundays there’s also delicious, freshly made waffles.

Vorhoelzer Forum and Bayerischer Hof Blue Spa Bar & Terrace

Vorhoelzer Forum – Arcisstraße 21

Located on the top floor of the technical university, a good spot at Vorhoelzer Forum is one of the most-coveted things on any given sunny day. With a big terrace overlooking the city, and huge cups of coffee, it’s the perfect spot for an afternoon brew with a side of fresh air. Stay a little while longer and you can go straight for a sundowner while enjoying the sunset.

Bayerischer Hof Blue Spa Bar & Terrace – Promenadeplatz 2-6

If you’re on the hunt for a five-star coffee drinking experience, head to the seventh floor of the Bayerischer Hof Hotel, one of Germany’s best five-star hotels. The latte macchiatos are super foamy and on point, though it’s the view over Munich’s old centre that makes it even better.

Man Versus Machine and Morso Caffetteria Alimentari

Man Versus Machine – Müllerstraße 23

If you’re on the hunt for an East-London-style (think Shoreditch Grind) coffee spot then Man Versus Machine is where you need to go. The baristas are bearded, the coffee is strong and the cups have crocodiles on them. The hipstery coolness of this cafe makes it the perfect place to spot Munich’s most stylish men, beards included.

Morso Caffetteria Alimentari – Nordendstrasse 17

Morso is a small cafe next to tram line 27 which is lovingly run by Arabella and Genc. The interior is brilliant, with lots of wood and special design items. Different types of flakey croissants are displayed on the counter, and there are piles and piles of cool magazines. Now all you need is a large cappuccino and you’ve got the perfect breakfast spread, outside on one of the little stools. Extra tip: a large take-away cappuccino is just 2 euros.

Laden and Cafè Fräulein

Laden – Türkenstraße 37

Everything at Laden is homemade, from the coffee to the fresh juice, the rhubarb crumble and the Laden classic spaghetti bolo. You can also have a classic German breakfast to accompany your tasty cup of coffee. They know what they are doing here!

Cafè Fräulein – Chiemgaustraße 81

Indeed not the biggest, but perhaps one of the most charming cafés located between Viktualienmarkt and Isartor. Time stops when you enter: vintage furniture, vintage tableware and decorations with a homely menu. Self-service from the trolley is included in most breakfast options, but number one tip would be to take your coffee here with their famous homemade Zimtschecken (cinnamon buns).

YAM Vegan Deli and Aroma Kaffeebar

YAM Vegan Deli – Augustenstraße 5

At this deli, everything is vegan, fair and organic, even the lattes which come in huge bowls like at Le Pain Quotidien. The place is absolutely tiny, so only suitable if you’re going with one or two friends. Pick a homemade cake (the banana bread is our favourite) and you’ve got yourself a guilt-free coffee break.

Aroma Kaffeebar – Pestalozzistraße 24

Located in the popular Glockenbachviertel, Aroma Kaffeebar must be one of Munich’s most-visited coffee and brunch spots. With it’s living-room-style interior filled with trinkets and home-baked goods, you feel right at home straight away. The cups of coffee are big, tasty and always includes some kind of pretty latte art. The brunch menu is hard to resist, too: toasted salmon bagels, classic bircher muesli and some of the best paninis in town. Alternatively, sit outside with some coffee and chocolate cake to enjoy the sun.

So, next time you’re looking for a great cup of coffee in Munich, make sure you try one of these places! We’re always looking for new spots, so let us know if you have any suggestions… sharing is caring!
